Dollar United Kingdom Rental Terms for travel between 14-Nov-2018 and 31-Dec-2024
Vehicle makes and models cannot be guaranteed. Terms are subject to change with prior notification.
Bookings will be guaranteed up to 4 hours from the original booking time. After this time Thrifty reserve the right to a) charge for an upgrade if vehicle class booked is no longer available or b) refuse hire
CDW (unless otherwise stated on rate schedule), One way charges, VAT & 3rd party liability. Damage to wheels and tyres, windscreens, underside, roof and interior of vehicle are not covered by CDW
Unlimited mileage, Fuel, Delivery/Collection, Parking, OOH, Overseas, Additional drivers, Young/senior driver surcharge, child seats, glass and tyre cover, SCDW - Super Collision Damage Waiver, PAI - Personal Accident Insurance, out of hours, maps and mobile phones.

Luxury and Elite vehicles are subject to limited miles as follows:
• Rental duration of 1 -14 days is limited to 100 miles per day
• Rental duration of 15 days and over is limited to 70 miles per day
• Excess miles will be charged at a rate of 50p per mile
Please note Dollar reserves the right to terminate any high mileage rental at any time
- It is not possible to take the vehicle outside of the UK into mainland Europe. This includes the Republic of Ireland

Valid drivers license issued by the country of residence must have been held for at least: 1 year (Endorsements should be checked with Dollar prior to pick up)
Any other Requirements: Young driver charge applies for age groups 22-24. This age group is only eligible to drive groups M1, M2, M3, M4 A2, A3, A4 and E3.
Please note that all renters must hold a Mastercard or Visa credit card or UK issued debit card which must be presented at time of rental. American Express, Cash, cheque or pre-paid credit cards are not accepted at any location.
Credit or Debit Card Payment: A deposit of £500 (economy to standard) and £750 (fullsize, MPVs and vans excluding Prestige 4x4s, Luxury & Elite) will be charged at start of hire
To rent a Prestige 4x4, Luxury or Elite vehicle the customer must be aged 30 or over and the customer must be able to produce 2 credit cards in their own name at the time of pick up.
For all Prestige 4x4, Luxury and Elite rentals payments must be made by credit card only - debit cards cannot be accepted. The credit card will be required for the value of the excess up to £5000 plus the cost of the hire charges or incremental charges
Elite vehicle bookings will attract a cancellation or no show fee as detailed below:
If cancellation is more than 2 working weekdays before pick up: No Charge
If cancellation is between 1 and 2 working weekdays before pick up: 1 day rental charge
If cancellation is less than 1 working weekday before pick up: 2 days rental charges
If the customer is a “no shows” or does not provide the correct ID, payment method or fails a security check and the hire cannot proceed 2 days rental charges will apply
Identification required if UK Resident
When collecting the vehicle, the Lead Driver must present
a valid driving licence. If old (paper-only) style, official photo ID must also be presented. If new (photocard + counterpart) style, both parts required. We cannot accept an expired photocard (see Driving Licenses’ section for further details)
If the licence does not show current home address (this includes license’s issued in EU countries and driver resides in UK), valid passport or national identity card must be presented
2 additional forms of ID to confirm current home address. One must be the credit card or bank statement for the credit or debit card being presented fordeposit and additional charges. The other should be a formal document (eg utility bill, council tax bill etc) - both must be dated within 8 weeks of date of hire.

All drivers presenting a UK driving licence (card licence or paper licence issued before 1998) need to provide evidence of their current endorsements at the time of renting - this includes any additional drivers. The counterpart to the driving licence was abolished in 2015 and DVLA provide an online facility for drivers to view and share their licence history. Drivers may either provide a paper copy of their licence history, obtained from the DVLA website no more than 21 days before the rental start, or the code provided by the DVLA on their website (screenshots of licence history are not accepted).
To generate the code or the print out, all drivers must visit the DVLA website on https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. Drivers will be required to input their NI number, driving licence number and postcode to view their history.
If you do not have a printer, and will be providing the code, please ensure it is written down exactly as on the screen. Thrifty staff will enter this code to the DVLA website in order to view your current endorsements. Thrifty locations will also have the facility for you to obtain the code once in the rental office – however, you will still need your NI number to do so.
Identification required if non UK Resident
When collecting the vehicle, the Lead Driver must present
Passport (or national identity card if European citizen if this has been used to enter UK)
a credit card in their own name (please note non UK debit cards are not accepted)
a valid driving licence from country of residence (licence must show an English translation if not issued in Europe)
travel documentation confirming dates of arrival & departure in the UK

Drivers must meet the locations insurance terms in order to rent a vehicle. The rental location reserves the right to refuse a hire if the driver does not meet their insurance conditions. We are unable to rent to students under the age of 23, professional entertainers, professional sports people, trainers and managers. Some medical conditions may not be covered by our insurance.
Insurance is subject to a damage liability which varies according to vehicle size.
Damage Liability Reduction is available at participating locations for an additional cost but is not available to drivers aged 21-24 or 70 and over.

Damage Liability for car groups Economy to Standard is £1000, all other groups, including Full-Size People Carriers are and vans is £1250 except the Prestige 4 x 4s and the Luxury Automatics which are £1500, the Luxury 4 x 4s and Elite vehicles are £2000 to £5000 depending on the vehicle.
Please note Glass and Tyre cover is not available for Elite rentals

Damage Liability waiver may be withdrawn at any time (for example, due to extreme weather conditions) at the discretion of Dollar management.
All vehicles are supplied with a tank of fuel at the start of hire. Customers may:
- Purchase this tank of fuel at a preferential rate and return the vehicle empty, or
- Return the vehicle full at the end of the rental, or
Return the vehicle part full and be charged for missing fuel at the end of the rental at the locally determined price. Please note a surcharge will be applied for this facility

Geographical Driving Restrictions: Northern Ireland, EU Countries – it is not possible to take vehicle out of the UK into mainland Europe, Rep of Ireland or across any other country border outside of the UK
Central London Congestion Charge: A ticket must be purchased in advance from a designated retailer for drivers wishing to enter Central London area. Please refer to www.cclondon.com or call 0845 9001234. Please note that if the renter does not purchase a ticket, they will be liable for any fines incurred.
All bookings are subject to the Terms & Conditions above, the rental of any vehicle is subject to the laws governing the country of rental. Renters will be asked to sign a rental agreement before taking the vehicle, rental locations reserve the right to refuse rental to anyone who is or appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A major credit card is required at the time of rental as a guarantee of payment of any customer liabilities and will be debited in the event of such damage. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is subject to an excess, unless advised by the rental location otherwise. Exclusions from CDW include without limit, damage to wheels and tyres, windscreen, underside of vehicle, roof of vehicle and any damage to the interior of the vehicle. In addition any damaged caused as a result of driving the vehicle off-road or on roads with no tarmac, negligently or without due care and attention is also excluded from CDW cover. This excess liability can be reduced if the customer takes out Super CDW cover. Please note that CDW/Super CDW does not cover the cost of towing the vehicle or any traffic/road fines incurred during the rental period, all traffic/road fines incurred during the rental period remain the sole responsibility of the renter. Any damaged caused to vehicle as a result of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is not covered by any insurance policies and all costs resulting from such damage will be the sole responsibility of the renter.
Refunds and Cancellations
All cancellations must be transmitted to the UK Inbound Reservations prior to the commencement of the rental.
During peak season full rental charges will apply to any booking where the customer no shows
Out of Hours Reservations
Out of hours collections and returns are on a request basis for all vehicle groups. Out of hours will be charged to the customers credit card at £40.00 + VAT. Please note that if the customer is picking up and returning out of hours, then they may incur two separate charges.
Fines and Driving Offences
Customers will be liable for any parking offences or traffic or congestion fines incurred against the rental vehicle whilst in their care. All fines are subject to a locally determined administration fee.
Customers will be liable for any damage to the rental vehicle whilst in their care. All damage charges are subject to an administration fee which is variable and determined by cost of repair.

Please note that reservations made for airport locations without an arrival flight number will be treated as a walk-in to the branch. Delivery or collections are not available.
All invoices must be paid within 30 days net on receipt of invoice.
Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable.
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
